- This error normally
occurs when installing Win95 programs to a Win98 Second Edition
operating system. This program is fully compatible with Windows
98; however, the older installation utility is having some difficulties
recognizing the newer Win98 Second Edition operating system.
Follow the steps below to resolve this error.

- First, make sure all
of your programs are closed. To do this, complete the following
steps. These steps must be carried out before starting the program
every time.
Press the Ctrl,
Alt and Delete
keys on the keyboard all at once. This will open a CLOSE
- PROGRAM
box. Locate EXPLORER and SYSTRAY listed in this window.
For any item except EXPLORER
and SYSTRAY, click on the item once to highlight it.
Click on the END TASK button.
This will return you to the Windows Desktop.
Repeat steps 1-3 until the only
items listed in the CLOSE PROGRAM Box are EXPLORER and
- SYSTRAY.

- Now run MKCOMPAT:
Click on START, choose RUN.
In the OPEN text line type MKCOMPAT.
Click on OK.
From the MAKE COMPATIBLE program
window select FILE.
From the FILE menu select CHOOSE
PROGRAM.
After the CHOOSE PROGRAM window
appears make sure that the LOOK IN field contains the
- X: drive
(where X is the letter of your CD-ROM drive). If it does not
contain the CD-ROM drive
- letter,
click on the down arrow to the right of the LOOK IN box and choose
the CD-ROM drive
- icon.
Click on the SETUP.EXE icon
once with the left mouse button to highlight it.
Click on OPEN at the bottom
left of the screen to accept the file name and return to the
- MKCOMPAT
window.
Click in the empty box next
to GIVE MORE APPLICATION STACK SPACE to place a checkmark
- in the box.
Click on FILE and choose EXIT.
Click on YES to save the compatibility
settings for SETUP.EXE.
Next, follow the steps below to install the program.
In the OPEN field, type X:\SETUP
(for X, substitute the letter of your CD-ROM drive) and click
- OK.
Choose INSTALL on the screen
that appears.
Click INSTALL on the Sierra
installation screen.
At the prompt to perform a system
test, click NO.
Ignore the system test results
and click YES to continue.

- At this point the installation
will proceed normally.

IMPORTANT ***
It is necessary to uncheck the MKCOMPAT boxes after installing
the program to prevent problems with future 32-bit setup files.
Follow the remaining steps below to do so.
Click on START and choose RUN.
In the OPEN text line type MKCOMPAT.
Click on OK.
From the MAKE COMPATIBLE program
window select FILE.
From the FILE menu select CHOOSE
PROGRAM.
After the CHOOSE PROGRAM window
appears make sure that the LOOK IN field contains the
- X: drive
(where X is the letter of your CD-ROM drive). If it does not
contain the CD-ROM drive

click on the down arrow to the right of the LOOK IN box and choose
the CD-ROM drive

Click on the SETUP.EXE icon

left of the screen to accept the file name and return to the
- MKCOMPAT
window.
Click in the checked box next
to GIVE MORE APPLICATION STACK SPACE to remove the
- checkmark
from the box.
Click on FILE and choose EXIT.
Click on YES to save the new
compatibility settings.
