The Imola circuit will remain famous for the unhappy reason that two drivers - Roland Ratzenberger and the great Ayrton Senna - were killed there in 1994. Since then the circuit has undergone considerable change and the terrible Tamburello corner has been modified. Despite this, it remains a very technical circuit with long acceleration sections followed by tight, tricky corners requiring heavy braking. To stay on the track, the drivers must remain very vigilant at all times. The right balance between strong acceleration and tight corners can be acquired by setting up for intermediate downforce. However, the heavy braking calls for tight chassis settings. And the thousands of local fans that pour into the circuit en masse cannot help but remind you, in case you had forgotten, that the local color is red!
